  1. From the album: Le chateau de Sire Gabriel

Voici le château enfin terminé. Au milieu de la cour, il y a une prison (demande spéciale de mon neveu). Je lui ai offert ce château pour son 5ème anniversaire. Here is the castle finally finished. In the middle of the courtyard, there is a jail (special request of my nephew). I offered this castle for his 5th birthday.

  2. From the album: Le chateau de Sire Gabriel

Après deux couches de peinture grise, j'ai fait plusieurs brossages à sec avec du noir, du blanc et du gris foncé. After two coats of gray paint, I made several drybrush with black, white and dark gray.

Les marches de l'escalier sont collées aux murs mais aussi à un poteau central. The steps of the staircase are glued to the walls, but also to a central pole.

  11. From the album: Upholstering Half Scale

My second attempt at upholstering a plastic sofa with the micro-suede fabric. This plastic sofa has no markings. Also found it in a thrift store. I used a couple of layers of thin quilt batting for the cushion which did raise the height of the seat.

  13. From the album: My Grandparents' Houses

Semi-completed half-scale wall house. The openings (doors, windows) are all correct half-scale, but the ceilings seem a bit high (Lundby furniture feels the right size, but looks odd next to the doors). It was found with all of the Houseworks finishing components tucked in the rooms, still in their boxes. Some of the paper has been ripped, and one carpet removed. Fully wired, though unsure to what degree it works. I've got plans for this one...

    The Prancing Pony

From the album: The Prancing Pony Gypsy Wagon

I've about finished all of the gold detailing. The is a little left to do on the wheels, but they needed another coat of paint first Painting the gold detailing was painstaking and time-consuming. I used a 10/0 brush for most of it, and a dental pick to clean up the whoopsies. It took a little over 8 hours to do all the gold you see here. Some of these pieces have gold relief on the opposite sides as well. But it's time to start gluing!!!

From the album: The Prancing Pony Gypsy Wagon

The wagon is now glued together and I'm working on some finishing touches. This is a shot of the interior. It's done in dark stain with all the relief carvings painted gold.

I always dry fit, over and over again. And it's a good thing! I discovered a section I forgot to paint. You can't see it until you turn the wagon over. It's the underside of the "ledge."

From the front. The door will need a little work to make it an opening door, and I'd like it to open both top and bottom, so it's a bit of a puzzle. Again, dry fitting helped me see some of the issues with the door pieces that don't quite align.

    The Prancing Pony

From the album: The Prancing Pony Gypsy Wagon

I've been staining, painting and varnishing like crazy. Almost all of that work needs to be done on this kit before assembly or you can't access the parts to finish them. But it's almost time to glue! I think I'll do another dry fit first Just to be safe!

In this photo you can see the fireplace looking in through the front door. For position, I've used a half scale fireplace surround, and a little "fairy garden" stove I got a long time ago that was sold as half scale, but is really closer to quarter scale. From studying images of the stove inserts in these wagons, they looked like very small cast iron stoves (almost kid sized) and I thought a quarter scale stove might work here. I think this one might be perfect with a little clean up.
