  1. From the album: Country House - Renovated

The stockings were hung by the chimney with canes, hoping St. Nicholas wouldn't complain. Barbara Hill made these personalized stockings for the girls, and I also purchased the fireplace from her. At first I wasn't going to purchase the stockings as I didn't want to drive spikes through the fireplace to hang them. Fortunately, my friend Ann thought of hanging them by one of the stocking canes, and that seems to be working well.
  2. OK , I've searched the forums and galleries and still cannot for the life of me figure these out. Are the front and back pieces to sit flush or should there be a gap ? And the tabs on the side do connect to something but they get covered up any way I've tried. I really have hit a brick wall here , and could use any & all advice . Thanks !

From the album: The Boathouse Lakeside Inn (Spring Fling 2013)

This is a shot of the fireplace through the bathroom door. I finally finished the mullions in the half scale windows. These and the board and batten woodwork really slowed me down because i kept putting them off. I had some gaps between the floor that i filled in with grout. i still need to repaint it.

    Dining Room

From the album: Country House - Renovated

This is a sideview of the dining room. I purchased the fireplace at a miniature show in Warren, NJ. from Barbara Hill, who does lovely work. Barbara sells some of her products on Etsy.

    Fireplace

    From the album: Gothic Orchid

I used egg carton bricks, craft sticks, and some little brackets & trim I bought. The "feet" are cut from the ends of a clip-type clothespin.

    Attic fireplace

    From the album: Gothic Orchid

Now I'm working on the exposed brick chimney and fireplace in the attic.
  7. From the album: Miscellaneous Minis

I love Braxton Payne's work. This is a half scale fireplace called the "Adam."

  8. From the album: Miscellaneous Minis

I love Braxton Payne's work. This is the one inch scale Colonial walk in cooking fireplace. The pot hooks on this work, too.

    Fireplace

    From the album: Half-scale Bungalow

I'm going with this fireplace for the room. I cut the template to fit around the edge since the floor would go in after it in real life. I have a plan for this little resin piece...hoping it comes out like I see it in my mind's eye!
  12. From the album: The Steampunk House

This is a close-up of the Kitchen. The walls are scrapbooking paper, except for the door which is painted bass wood. The floor was made by cutting baked Polymer clay sheets into tile pieces that I glued to graph paper and sealed with polyurethane. With the exception of the tea kettle, everything in this photo was hand made out of some of the following; Egg cartons Popsicle sticks Bass/balsa wood Various papers/cardboard Polymer clay Plastic bottle tops Pipe cleaners Craft foam Aluminum wire Rocks/sticks from outside Beads Fabric Glass mosaic pieces Acrylic paint Polycrylic Read about the whole project and see more photos on my blog; http://kyle-lefort.blogspot.com/2013/05/undersized-urbanite-entry-steampunk.html

  14. From the album: The Steampunk House

This is a close-up of the fireplace, found in the Kitchen. It's loosely based on a small houseboat fireplace I saw during a trip to 1000 Islands, NY. Made to look like riveted brass, it's made out of balsa wood, egg carton, paper, polymer clay, and metallic gold/matte black acrylic paint. The back splash is corrugated scrapbooking paper on cardboard. It's the same corrugated paper used for the shingles on this house, but I cut it to look more like tiles. Both the fireplace and back splash have been sealed with Polycrylic, which also adds to the shine. The logs are sticks from outside, given a light wash of white gesso to give them a nice color contrast from the fireplace. More info on my blog; http://kyle-lefort.blogspot.com/2013/05/undersized-urbanite-entry-steampunk.html

  16. I just got the lights and fire boxes for the scratch build...the lights all have plugs (this will be my first time wiring a dollhouse, so I REALLY don't want to mess with copper tape - I am disaster-prone and have accidentally set things on fire before). The fire boxes don't. They each come with a (separate) bulb on two wires...can they be fixed into a plug, or are there bulbs that come on plugs, or what? (Plug-in flicker bulbs would be awesome but are not absolutely necessary.) The fire boxes are FP G017 by Glow Well.
  17. Started rehabbing my Glencroft. Decided to make a stone fireplace for downstairs. I was pretty pleased with how it was looking so far. Then I realized I did it BACKWARDS! It's just like when I used to make my kids' clothes -- I ALWAYS put in one sleeve backwards. At least with this I think I can salvage it. Anybody else do stuff like that?
