  1. I think what happened was that I actually won, but DH found the email before me and deleted it, so I wouldn't know. Yep, I bet that's what happened.
  2. Now you've got my curiousity up because the Smithsonian allows photos. Why is that? I noticed that my flash rarely went off in there, so maybe they have enough light to prevent flashes anyway?
  3. I've been married for 13 years and have a 9 year old daughter. I'm a southern country girl through and through, but I married a man from just outside Boston. I hate cold and I'm not fond of the city except for the shopping opportunities. Luckily, he likes it better down here too, although he would prefer a more suburban setting than the 4 acres we live on. I love animals and have 3 Dachshunds, 1 bearded dragon, 1 turtle, 6 hermit crabs, 3 fire belly toads and 1 fish. We would have cats and probably birds too, but DH is highly allergic to both. I had to find a new home for my cockatie
  4. Well, maybe it's just us, but I can't stand something pressing on my throat and my daughter is the same. To have it tight enough so that the helmet doesn't move is uncomfortable for us. And I really don't see the big need for one just to ride around an empty parking lot at the park. There's very little chance of serious brain injury there - no more than if she were simply running. In fact probably less since she's more prone to tripping than falling on her bike. She's not flying down hills or around traffic. If she were riding on a busy street, I'd have a different opinion. But it is a
  5. She looks so much like my Freddie that we lost last year. He was also 14. Here is one of my favorite passages. It's not really a tribute to one pet, but the words are so true. "We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan." From "The Once Again Prince" by Irving Townsend
  6. At Mount Vernon, they said it was for copyright reasons that they don't allow pictures in the museum or inside the house. They do allow pictures in the Smithsonian museums. At least all the ones I've been in.
  7. Aww, Jenny, I'm so sorry. I know how much it hurts. I tear up every time I read of someone's pet passing away, but it especially touches me when it's a Dachshund. They're very special little souls.
  8. Yep, we wonder why so many kids are overweight. Have you ever strapped on a bicycle helmet? Properly worn, those things are not at all comfortable. My daughter never rides her bike because she doesn't want to put on a helmet. It's no wonder kids don't want to play much. They have to get all suited up just to ride a scooter. Now, seat belts, I am all for. But I'm against laws that require them to be worn by adults. Here in NC, we now require children up to 8 to be in car seats. All because so many people have big SUVs whose seat belts don't fit small kids. Doesn't matter if you have a

  10. My kitchen table looks the same whenever I'm working on something. We never use it anyway, but it does look a mess. That's why my husband was happy when I didn't win anything in the miniature madness contests! I just finished a house last week so it's clean at the moment.
  11. It looks great. I really like how your windows turned out! I use gallery glass too, but mine looks just sort of slopped on. Yours looks real.
