  2. Has anyone seen "The Miniaturist" on PBS? It is based on a novel by Jessie Burton, the story is set during the 17th century Dutch Golden Age, where a young girl marries a rich merchant who bequeaths her a beautiful dollhouse. Without giving much away, it is a fascinating story full of intrigue, involving the dollhouse, the elusive miniaturist, and the dollhouse owner. The production brought on Mulvany & Rogers to make the 17th dollhouse replica. If you have not seen it, it is a good watch on a lazy afternoon.

  3. From what I've seen of the quick-glimpse ads promoting the show, I'm glad we didn't make the cut. The limited time to complete complex elements is definitely not in my wheelhouse or NJ's. Slow and deliberate is more our style! It looks as if the challenges all related to traditional Christmas/holiday décor. Haven't seen any sign of open plan or shiplap. I'm looking forward to stealing ideas gathering inspiration for future builds.

  4. Congratultions Michael! I do hope you will start a gallery of the castle progress (have to make 5 posts first but you have 3 right here). I don't do FB. The pics might have to be resized. I use http://www.resize-photos.com/

Love this wallpaper I downloaded from Etsy from Cobble Hill MIniatures! It goes perfectly with the desk that good friend Meghan of Dollhouse Smithery (on Etsy) made especially for this build. Love it - I'm so lucky to have such a talented friend! I 3D printed the little house on top but have yet to paint it.

  6. Hi everyone! I got a used Willowcrest that I would like to rehab to be at least somewhat sturdy and playable -- on a budget of course. It looks like whoever built it used hot glue everywhere, so that ought to make disassembly a little easier. I've started removing the shingles and some flooring. I don't think I like the chimney -- it doesn't connect to any of the fireplaces and I'm not sure how I would make it so. I'm also interested in the bash I've read about where the upper staircase faces the other way so it's playable. That would disrupt the winding path from the lower staircase but I don

  7. How lucky to have find a Lawbre dollhouse in thrift store, even if it is in shabby condition. I've seen beautifully done up dollhouses and the next owner changes the furniture and rips out the interior to reflect their aesthetic. Some people don't like the chintzy cottage look with the abundance of flowers and do them in a different look. It is also not just surviving spouses that want to "get rid of" the dollhouses and accessories, it's often surviving children or extended family members who could care less and can't be bothered dealing with the plethora of items left from the dec

  8. My late father worked on this masterpiece for 5 years but it is only half finished. This was his second build after completing a kit Victorian house. The castle fits across two custom craft tables he built on castors, each table is 4'x4' so the entire castle is nearly 8' across and about 3' wide. My mother is moving out of her house and we don't have room for this, nor time to finish the work ourselves. My father purchased a large amount of furniture, furnishings, and other material for this project, much of it still in original packaging, although not enough to complete/decorate/furnish e

  13. Most of us can't answer until we see the house. Do you have a picture? If not, what type of wood is it made of .....tab and slot plywood, MDF, a 3/8 inch birch plywood??? If it is made of a nice 3/8 inch plywood, it could be a special well made house. When it comes right down to it, it doesn't sound like they know what they have....What is it worth to you? Just think about the cost of what it might be to bring the house back to life and go from there.

  14. I had bought three inexpensive 1/12 scale pottery pieces from a Chinese seller on Aliexpress for a few dollars. My wife decided she could make them Native American with a little work. This was the first. The second is finished and the third will soon be.

  16. Are you going to re-wallpaper every room? You don't need to disassemble any walls if you are going to rewire. Trouble shooting an existing system is a pain in the rear end. Go ahead and plug it in. It won't burst into flames, if there are broken connections some lights won't work or it may not even turn on. Stay with the house and check to see if any of the wires are getting warm etc. Then be sure to unplug it when you are done. Have you watched this video yet?

I've made all the lighting for the house myself - some with 3d printed components I have printed.

  21. Welcome Kelly, Do what makes you happy. Those are large houses and if you were decorating them for someone else who might someday buy it, you probably will lose interest. I can't do a mini project thinking I will make money off of it, I do it for my own enjoyment. I would love to see your house upon completion in a museum.......And yes, please don't leave us hanging, post some pictures of your past or current creations.

  22. Ladies, as the former president of a local dollhouse club, I can tell you about the numerous calls I’ve gotten from surviving spouses who’ve had to deal with their wive’s miniature obsessions. They are completely clueless as to how to “get rid of” the endless amounts of inventory collected over the years. They have no idea as to the actual value of the items and no way or time to figure it all out. I explain to them there is EBay, garage sales, estate sales (50% fee) or they can purchase a table at our annual show and try to sell it there. Unfortunately, they can’t be bothered and most of it e

  25. Just spreading the news in case you hadn't heard. Christine-Lea Frisoni's fabulous ( but previously only published in French) book Le Grand Livre De La Maison Miniature is now available for pre order on amazon (reasonably priced) and now published in English! I was so happy when I heard this news. Will be released the first week of January 2015.
