  1. I am an inventor and I invented a new game which is called "pretend I found 1/24" Greenleaf furniture at a flea market and turned them into collector quality pieces." So far I plan to turn the piano into a giraffe piano, reverse assemble another giraffe piano but make it to a bar, sandwhich a fireplace between both of them, and voila a cool wall setting! Bespaq ain't got nothing on me.

  3. I purchased this fireplace on eBay. It's a really nice piece and I want to use in my San Fran 555. Here is the problem. As you can see by the picture that by placing it against the wall it sticks out way too far due to the way the back of it is made. I was going to cut a whole thru the siding so it will be flush to the wall. But, then I will have to create a chimney on the outside of the house. The San Fran has milled siding so how would I account for the ridges when I make the chimney box that fits next to the siding? Also, the chimney is going to be on the same side of the house as the 3rd story turret. Do you think the chimney will look funny on this side of the house? Would you cut the hole into the house to fit this piece in? I can't think of a way to make a false wall in this room. Here is another view of the back. It's made this way so it can accommodate the fireplace grate. The firebox is lined with brick. The piece is number 216/500 and dated 1986 so I really don't want to take it apart to take the back off of it. Here is the front. I would appreciate any advice on what to do. Thanks!

  4. Hopefully you will intercept those packages before hubby gets to them! Years ago I would binge buy, especially if the store had a sale, or in a going out of business sale. I did have either a house in process or one in the wings, and those house themes are now what call me to buy. Speaking of which, I need to order some wallpaper, a fireplace, a ton of furniture...time to start shopping!

  6. It's called a chimney breast, and it's a perfect solution for you. Here's a post on how I built one. Mine ended up being permanently attached, but you could easily keep it removable. http://www.otterine.com/blog/blog1.php/study-with-fireplace-part-2 http://www.otterine.com/blog/blog1.php/study-with-fireplace-part-3

  7. Beautiful. Love those cabinets. Where did you get them? I am hoping for my sake you didn't make them, because I would love to have some in my San Fran. And if you did make them you are so very talented. That would be way beyond my capabilities.

  14. I'm kinda a collector - and I spent many many years moving, now that I'm in place, I buy what I find that I like, or if it's a good super cheap price and I can see its potential ..... and some times I just find stuff, like a cool rock when I'm walking - picked it up and set it in my random shelf. Now it's in a garden under my bakery's outside faucet, it has a bowl filled w water, and I set a tiny dragon fly in it. I am lucky to have an entire attic space and while I am a collector, I'm also an organizer. I love a good label maker! so, basically when I get to the decorating stage I shop my stash and then I buy I do agree with what said above about not buying as much, and concentrating more on quality. But! I also love transforming pieces, so a 50 cent table I can transform is a good buy, in my mind. My work room is slightly embarrassing, as I find if I can see it, I won't forget it, so I have shelves of clear boxes for the little accessories - and 4 lighted cabinets for the random furniture. All sorted - beds, chairs, etc. I always forget, and then someone will come into my work room for the first time and say "Sharon! So much stuff!". The way I see it- I don't really buy clothes, or other things, I am very careful of how I spend my money. (One of my cousins was giving me crap and I asked his wife in front of him, how much does your husband spend on golf each week, and he shut up) I just enjoy miniatures and dollhouses!

  15. I was gonna wrap him up and give it to Danny for his birthday... but he's still sitting in the box on my nitestand. I think I'll keep him all for myself.. Yeah.. he's waiting for me to build that cabin for him. The Shadybrook will make a nice hunting/fishing cabin for him.
