  2. Hope it isn't the flu, Roxxie. Whatever it is, get well soon. I had another interview this morning. It was with the 4 division managers of a national pharmacy chain. I think it went well and will know if I'm in the final 2 spots by next Wednesday. If I get the job, I will have to learn a few more skill sets, but it pays substantially better than my previous job and it is in Gainesville, so the commute won't be bad at all.

  7. Finished the Cozy Corner for the NAME Day 2014 What a fun little kit. It will someday go into my Federal Manor but for now I just posed it with a backdrop - and 4 gentlemen meeting for lunch.

This was the kit designated for NAME Day and I had a lot of fun putting it together. I've glued the cushions down with rubber cement so I should be able to remove and replace them if needed.

  9. My boys still have their Legos. The bucket is in my craft room. I have used them to hold things while waiting for the glue to dry. You would be surprised at how useful they are. All my rulers grew legs one day and left, I found them all hiding in my youngest sons crayon box and hot wheels box, but I used Legos to make a straight edge.! Lol, my boys thought I was crazy....but they took my rulers and I could not find them so I used THEIR legos ! Lol. My youngest was thrilled because I made a wall for him to wreck his hot wheels cars into after he gave me back my rulers. He was using them as speed bumps in the road. So rulers make good speed bumps for cars too. ! I've used their kinetics or something like that to trace round disks to make clocks. Kellee

  10. I knit and crochet full size things just to keep my arthritic hands flexible. We had breakfast on the new back porch this AM, once I removed the wee green frog that had hidden behind the struts last night and wouldn't come out. He and the fly he'd caught went out; the frog seemed happy, the fly was dead. Afterwards we went in to town to the first day of the Greek Festival; totally pigged out on spectacularly delicious Greek food!

  12. Well, my DD has taken a job near the Earth & Tree in NH... she went on her lunch break and said that she was completely entranced with all the miniatures. She was shopping for my birthday! If I worked near them, I'd have no paycheck, for sure.

  15. I think I need new glasses because when I first read your post, I thought it said you were selling your kids. - Well, maybe in a way you are, but at least what you have in mind is legal. They will all go to good homes, I am sure.

  18. My seasonal job has screeched to a halt, since we are no longer allowed in one of my favorite venues! There is a 5-day Holiday Food and Gift Show later this month and they are no longer allowing the commercial vendors (i.e. home improvement) to participate. Our company has been in it for several years and never had complaints. But they let a few others in who didn't have the horse-sense to treat it like a Holiday Show, but proceeded to hawk their wares as if they were at a back-country street fair. That ruined it for all of us! So not only do I miss a 50-hour paycheck and sales commissions; I also miss my annual shopping opportunity for my grandchildren. I guess I could go as a tourist (horrors!) and PAY for parking and PAY the entrance fee, but I am accustomed to being paid to be there, not the other way around. So with my calendar clearer than I would like it to be, I'm busy booking craft shows. I got into a 2-day event the same weekend as the big Holiday Show and hope it will be a good one for me. Now I have to "STEP IT UP A LITTLE..." and get some more inventory ready. Just received a new box of fairies that I ordered for my fairy gardens. They are so cute!

  22. Holly....was trying to be funny....guess it didn't work...lol. I have been painting the house "Honey Brown" which when dry looks like gingerbread. Not as easy as i thought, it is 1/2" scale and very tight. Going to make a few pieces of "Gingerbread" furniture with candy cane legs. Now I have to find my caulking gun for the frosting.......wish me luck.

  23. Kelly, I know what you mean. As soon as i opened the box and felt the smooth, rich surface it reminded me of the mushroom that became the inspiration for the little Christmas house in the Bohemian woods. I couldn't even think about painting the walls, inside or out, just the roof, to mimic the inspiration mushroom. I have to admit that I still feel sorry for the White Orchid that was painted black. Maybe it told the person who did it that it wanted to be black, but I hear it crying for help. It's the only house belonging to someone else that I've ever heard speak to me. Maybe it's because my White Orchid was adamant about remaining pristine that I'm filtering it in quite that way. In any event, yes, the White Orchid is a rare kit and deserves to be handled thoughtfully. I'm sure it will call out to you one day.

  24. I also sell this buffet of classic style. I made it myself from a rough wooden furniture. It is painted black and then weathered antique wax giving it a satin finish. The top and inside the furniture are plain wood directemment patina wax. The contrast of deep black and hot light honey color of raw wood gives this buffet a lot of class. Integrated into a tastefully decorated interior he brings a classic and elegant appearance, the little more unique that is not found elsewhere. If you are interested in this miniature thank you for contacting me. Have a good day. Sincerely, Thierry B

  25. I still have mine in its box.! I was one of the winners of the kit and was so happy. I still smile everytime I look at the box ! I want to put it together, but nothing ever came to me as what to make it. It's such a rare kit I don't want to screw it up.!

  27. I think you guys are right! That's a great idea! The solution to the front door is some sort of paneling on each side. I would rather not cut into the plywood, the house is flimsy enough . But seriously, the panels are a great idea. In real life I wouldn't do it because of the spate of robberies around here where they just broke the windows on the side of the door and reached in and opened it....but the dollhouse is on a remote property, yea, that's it . The upstairs door openings are curved (whyyyyyyyyyyy) at the top and small, those may end up with beaded curtains LOL. Wait, I have a nursery. Ummm baby gates anyone?

  28. My Christmas house is sitting on the shelf waiting patiently. I always put it out for Christmas. It's always been a little store but this year I am thinking of putting a stove, fridge, sink and little table in the kitchen. I want to go thru my furniture and see if I can reupholster a sofa in a Christmas fabric, if not I'll use one of the greenleaf wood furniture kits to make the sofa..... And it will need a fireplace. I have not done much in polymer clay, I've always wanted to just haven't ventured there yet. I seen a mold set for heads, hands and feet at Michaels. I would like to get the set, and make a Santa and Mrs. Claus for the house. I may just play with a block of clay and see if I can make a decent face before I buy the molds. Gotta watch the $$. Check out the scapbooking section for Santa suits, they look great. I got one a few years ago, it's on a nice gold hanger too. I'll hang that up in the bedroom of the house, and dress Santa in a flannel shirt, and pants with suspenders.!

  30. Built a floor to ceiling 3 sectioned shelf for the Cozy Corner project. It's interior is a light blue; the shelves and edge mouldings are off white. I've been trying to make a bowl type structure for the base of an intricate chandelier out of clay, it's hopeless! One more week until I can drive again. Been stuck at home due to a foot surgery. Dying to get to the new HL which just opened in Boca Raton. Rumor has it, our town, Coral Springs is getting one soon. Yipee!

  31. I'm doing laundry !!! Finally !!! We got the washer fixed. We ordered the part from amazon. I don't buy anything online so I was scared. But it was more than half the price on amazon. I've only got 3 loads done in 2 days. But I was at work, so I am getting more hours now which is great !!! But I need clean clothes ! It's been a long week ! I worked over almost everyday this week. I'm enjoying my second job, I love seeing all the new stuff that comes in. I work the shipment team at both jobs. I've seen a lot of things I would like, but I'm being very good and haven't bought anything....I haven't even asked what my discount is.... And I'm not seasonal !!!! I got in 2 days before seasonal hiring started !!! Kellee

  32. On the subject of shaving, after a certain age who cares? For cutting hair, however, when mine was long I would wake up in the AM to a pillowful of hair (it's baby fine and very thick). When our bookstore went belly up the jobs I found involved machinery (bench jeweler's apprentice, bindery) and I cut my waist length hair into a "boyish" bob that took two stages because the national chain "beauty shop" I first went to (that advertised they cut hair any way the customer wanted it) refused to cut it shorter than shoulder length; I've been going to barber shops ever since. Since we hike, paddle kayaks and ride bikes extremely short hair makes sense for me.

  33. Thanx for posting those links,Selkie! Last year I read many things like them, studying up on this 'tradition' because it has always bugged me that boys have always been considered sissies (A terrible term!) if they even looked at pink in a favorable way! Ridiculous! Add to that the silly notion that ALL women should cut their hair off and wear it short after a certain age-and I think that age gets younger and younger! I'm certain none of us here are old enough to remember, but women just didn't cut their hair off before the 1920s! Now,for the last several generations,it's expected...I loved my long hair and cannot wait for it to grow back! One final pet peeve, that unnerves most people I dare to mention it to,but women shaving their underarms as the 'norm',in America, didn't start until about 100 years ago, when the Gillette razor company decided they could increase their profits by marketing the practice to women as a hygiene and beauty issue...Now,I'm not saying do or don't,but it sucks that we are expected to,all because a greedy corporation wanted to get the other half of the population's money!! LOL Sorry, this post was way off subject, but I guess I can bring it back by saying I 'collect' information, history, and trivia like this from the internet, where every isn't always a lie and you can learn so many interesting things!

  35. My house is filled to the brim with Legos - probably kind of obvious since I have the 3 kiddos and they all build - #1 and #3 are avid builders as is one of my other grands that doesn't live here. Gluing jigs is definitely an nice application for them. This is getting somewhat off topic by the end of what I say, but Legos are used. I saw a Utube video of someone using them as a fence for creating a master bulk mold for making miniature bricks. It was at Richter Scale Studios. This guy does some pretty cool modeling. He has tons of very helpful videos. I found it after Deb referred to the Chopper II that he uses and I was trying to find out how to use the chopper tool. Part 3 shows the lego setup for the mold. Part 4 shows using the mold to create the bricks. Part 1 shows how he started the whole deal using the Chopper II Part 2 continues the pre-set up Oops forgot to put in Part 5 and Part 6. These show the use of the mold he made.

  38. Holly found the hats at Micheal's today...didnt get one...BUT I did get the cork ribbon...widest size....they had 3 sizes also got the trim I love to use inside my houses...hooray for the Gingerbread house will need more but it was a start.....had to go look n my bag.....lazer cut chandeliers...more Barbie scale...but I got one for Pixie's Castle and Catriona's MHM and 1 for me cuz ...well...CUZ!! Hobby Lobby I got more Candy for the Ginger bread house in the small Christmas decorations...they also had dayglow colors of chandeliers..Package of 4 in scale with 1" scale...gonna try and paint them and see how that goes. the clearance section had googly eyes some peace sign and Christmas buttons.... I do have to tell this silly...I was dissapointed in Micheal's when they had no hutches....Dean looks at me and chuckled out loud....and said,,,HOW many of those do you have already??? SIGH...I have 30 but if they had one in my fav style I probably would have brought it home to be reunited with its hutch family!! it was nice to get out and get supplies.

  39. Do you scent your Christmas house? In this cottage I used dried orange peel that's sold at Hobby Lobby for candle additives, I have it in a basket kept under the baking table. I also have some of the dried orange peel in another basket on top of the kitchen hutch. In the living room I have one of the hutch drawers full of cloves, the other with dried orange peel, I think I also put the cloves in the kitchen hutch drawers. Anyway...it smells WONDERFUL :-) From what other members have said this isn't a good idea if you live somewhere particularly "buggy" but Ive never had a problem and scent all of my houses. Another idea would be to use a cinnamon (or whatever scent you like) reed diffuser, let one of the reeds soak up the fragrance and then hide it somewhere...under the bed or behind a dresser.

  42. Okay, here's the pictures of my little gingerbread men and tree. The tree is very fluffy right now. It needs to be trimmed and filled in still. The base it is sitting on is part of the contest I'm entering it in, and nothing can go over the edge of the base.
