  1. That's what we did today! Put some water in first thing this morning to warm up and it was so difficult dissuading her from going in (it was still to cold). Managed 45 minutes, and then she had to go in....agreed it was a little cold to sit down! Loved it even more in the warmer afternoon with her cousin. It has been thundering and lightning all evening, and raining. We so rarely get a thunderstorm that I have really being enjoying it Busy tomorrow, but hoping Sunday will be warm enough for more paddling (was mid 70s today)

  2. As I think I have already mentioned, when asked what I do with my houses when they're built, I say that I play with them, because I do. I find it wonderfully therapeutic! and I don't watch TV soaps. At my age, most people asking get a wistful look when I add that I build my dollhouses for adults to play with.

  3. I work in the Home Improvement industry, as a product demonstrator, so I'm in all these Home and Garden Shows throughout the year. I'm always drawn like a magnet to those who have the miniature prototype of their products on display. That's usually the architects who take the time for a small model. I usually have to explain why I'm drooling all over their demo, so I explain that I "build in miniature, usually in the 1:12 scale". That makes a good intro to the subject of dollhouses and such. Then I'm also walking around the Show taking pictures - how the roofing looks, how it's put together,

  4. This made me bray like a donkey!! Too funny. I'm starting to realize however, that being in these forums with you all is a little dangerous. Since all of us are so smitten with our dhs and it feels normal to come here and talk about them incessantly, I can see myself thinking everyone is the same way and slipping in front of my non-mini friends. Ah well. They are used to my quirks. I only have the one finished that I purchased from Craigslist, but I'm constantly admiring it and planning future upgrades/furniture placement/etc (this can be somewhat awkward when my DH comes in and finds me

My niece has an Easter Bonnet parade each year at school, which we go to watch. So I made Natasha one with a bunny picnic on top of it.

Ground floor room, left side of the Tudor inn. Paneled walls, beamed ceilings massive fireplace, working doors, custom built furniture and leaded windows, 3 story staircase on the left side of coach way. the only thing I would change is to add lighting, but I don't think I could ever allow my self to drill even tiny holes for wires, sigh

I like the way the bricks turned out on the little room that sticks out over the porch. I also see some places I need to fix. lol

  9. I am so glad to read that this Dr might be a keeper Deb. I will cross fingers and toes. Chelsea is in California. She texted me at 2 am to let me know she landed. We are gonna strip her room, shampoo carpet, and paint it. Fresh digs when she comes home in August. Very damp, rainy and buggy today. The weekend will be much better. I will make the man brownies and he requested breakfast for dinner for FD. He celebrated me, I will celebrate him

  10. What do I do with the houses? If it was not built for a grandchild, they sit on the table I can play with them. I take pictures and put on my FB page for my friends to enjoy. I have supportive friends that just love the houses and all the ity things I find/buy. I am working on something now (not the barn) as a surprise for a former co-worker's granddaughter. I hope the little one likes it. Grandpa spoils her, so it's a good thing. A for the relative that was a total jerk, you are a sweeter person than I am. That person is just plain jealous of your and your child's talent. I wo

  11. This thread seems to have taken on a new life There was a lady on Facebook awhile ago who was suffering from PTSD after returning from Iraq. Apparently it was pretty serious and she was under doctor's care. But she loved miniatures and she began building dollhouses. When she went back to her psychiatrist, her progress was remarkable and the doctor prepared a prescription for a lower dose of medication. But the lady refused, saying she didn't need or want anymore drugs - she had her own cure and was doing well. The doctor asked what that "cure" was and the lady told her about her hobby. Appa

Well the house is finally finished and ready for landscaping. That will be a winter project after we take a few months and enjoy the summer.

  19. Kat, if you are using the drawer with the 24"(48 feet) as the vertical, you could easily do four stories. 1/2" = 1 foot. Even allowing for the thickness of the floors, you could have at least 11 foot ceilings. You didn't say what you were going to use for dividers. So I am guessing at the height. With 14" (28 feet across), you could have two small rooms or one large room on each level. You also didn't say if you were going to do staircases on each floor. That would cut into the room space. Of course, all of your rooms would be 6"(12 feet) deep. Maybe you could do a doorwa

  22. Gee, I can appreciate that. They should not have told you private information. Did you mention that to them at the time? On the other hand, I would hope that people would not encourage people not to tell their doctor such and so. Doctors are there to help you get your life back on track. How do you do that if you don't feel free to open up? Some people actually do need a counselor. This life can be very traumatizing. Please don't think I'm trying to attack you personally. I simply don't agree with discouraging people from seeking help when they need it. CheckMouse, nice catch. And thank

  26. My mother was pretty sick about a year ago - on oxygen and all the rest - and we, too, were trying to get more nutrition down her. She just nibbled. Several people suggested Insure (the canned drink that is supposed to have EVERYTHING in it) and when we saw the price we looked for an alternative. DH and I stood in the grocery store and compared, line by line, the contents of the expensive Insure and the contents of Carnation's Breakfast Essentials. (Used to be called Instant Breakfast) The ingredients are almost identical, and the breakfast drink is a fraction of the cost of the Insure bran

  27. Thanks to all for the good wishes and kind thoughts. Ann Marie is doing better now that we're here. The pressure has lifted, and a dear friend made an elaborate chart of her meds and the med schedule to guide us. She has several meds to take as needed, but some meds can cause symptoms that indicate another med should be taken. We're monitoring blood pressure and oxygen levels to avoid getting into that loop, and it seems to be going well. She says she feels much better. The big problem now is to get her to eat. Her doctor needs her to gain weight, but she only nibbles. She eats mac &

  29. Probably going to tackle my closet tomorrow. Over the last four years I have lost all of my menopause weight so there are a lot of clothes which I hope I will never wear again. Also, since I'm retired, I don't see the need for the dressy work clothes, anymore. Another problem is that I live in Florida, but love winter clothes. My closet is overcrowded with sweaters and boots which are usually worn one month out of the year. My fear is that once I clean this closet out, it will be empty. Generally, my current daily wear consists of yoga pants, a short sleeve shirt and sandals. So I guess I'

  30. Our travel plans have suddenly taken a major turn. We are in St. Augustine, Florida, today. This afternoon we received a call from Lloyd's sister, Ann Marie, in Sugar Land, Texas. She is very ill and does not have a good family support system in place. Everyone around her has always relied on her for everything and seem incapable of switching roles. Having to constantly repeat instructions to them is wearing her down to a nubbin. She begged for me to come help coordinate her care and keep the not-so-helpfuls at bay, so I'll be flying from Jacksonville, Florida, to Houston tomorrow. Lloyd will

I'm still trying to convince my old doctors in Denver to move out here but so far they haven't agreed. LOL So here we go again...........

  32. It's been 10 weeks since my last cigarette. I had been smoking for 40 plus years so figured that was long enough. So when I got a virus in April, I figured it was time to quit. I've been using the patches to assist me. Currently, I can make it until 5 pm each evening before I must put 1/2 of a patch on and I take it off at bedtime. In about two weeks I'll ween off some more. The problem that I'm having through all of this is my complete lack of concentration. I feel all I do all day is stare into space. Nothing is getting done. I have to force myself into snapping out of it. There is

  34. These days I can get the same effect just from standing up that I used to pay good money for in college. hehehehehehe I'm enjoying the morning on the patio after too much rushing around at 6am. Bruce was getting ready to leave for work when he noticed that we had a flat tire. He'd run over something in the bumper to bumper traffic yesterday evening and we ended up with *5* nails in the tire. So he popped the donut on it and off he went to Big O for a new tire. That's a little too much excitement for that time of day but I have to admire my husband's extreme talent when it comes

  36. What made me smile today was my husband took 6th place (out of 500) in a shooting competition. He did really well. It makes me happy that it makes him happy. He got to get away and have fun with all his shooting friends and I got to play undisturbed in the yard. Wins for everyone! Morgan, if you come to Michigan, look for my license plate. It's BROOM 1.
