  1. Congrats, Roxy! My wife is planning to give the boards a 5th try, but she hasn't been studying enough (maybe an hour or two a week). The new tire, brakes and rotor are on my bike, so it's a little safer to ride. I haven't gotten any calls for an interview yet, but I did get a call today from one of the best attorneys in the country. She offered to be a reference, which is huge. She is the attorney who tutored JFK Jr. after he failed the bar exam the first time, and has a reputation for being so well versed in the law, she has brought trial attorneys to tears in the courtroom.

  3. Congratulations, Roxy, to you and your son! I know personally how frustrating it is waiting for a child to "find himself"! My son dropped out of college after one year, got a job as a doorman at one of the posh apartment buildings on Central Park West (Manhattan). He finally went back to school after a couple of years, wound up graduating with a degree in computer programming and honors (Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude)! He's a computer analyst now, but lives for the nights when he does stand-up comedy gigs and/or plays the drums with a band that makes an awful lot of noise -- no rhythm, just

  8. If you are interested, I glued the Orchid together this afternoon! I just couldn't wait plus the Mouse Family was nagging me all day to get it done. They want to move in as soon as possible. A picture is posted in my Greenleaf Blog ( not the one at the bottom of my editor). Casey, I peeked at the Buttercup.....its so cute!

  9. Congratulations Roxy, good news for you! I'm sure it's a load off your mind. I spent the afternoon getting Bespaq's new I Love Lucy living room pieces onto New England Miniatures. Kinda funny - I opened each and every box to check the piece inside - got to the last little box - and it was empty! No tiny piano stool! Bespaq is shipping me another one though, so all is good.

  10. Congratulations to your son,Roxy! As we know,Holly became a nursing student at an older age and I myself returned to college at 31(and pregnant) to become a certified preschool teacher. Your son's news gives me hope for my 25 year old who has a 2 year college degree but has put off going farther because he can't decide what he really wants to study. You are so right as to the need for more men in nursing. When I was studying to be an LPN in '82,we only had one guy classmate and he left the program very quickly. I am so happy for your son and wish him many happy years in his career! I am

  12. Hi I'm Tinkerbelle (my main nickname since I'm petite and she's my favourite Disney character) and I am from England. I have always been interested in miniatures and dolls houses since I was a little girl and my dad made a kit dolls house for me one Christmas when I was 3. I also distinctly remember my grandmother giving me a paper booklet of Queen Mary's dolls house and loving the rooms. I still have it somewhere. I have wanted to get into miniatures for years but haven't had the opportunity to for various reasons. I was inspired when I saw a friends mum's dolls house. The

  17. Once you get to working again, we're going to want to see photos just like the ones you enjoy from us. While you're waiting to begin work again, why don't you get an inexpensive digital camera and practice with it? (And don't give me that nonsense about your body chemistry mucking up electronics ... Love from a friend, ~k P.S. I've been trying to make a potter's head in 1:12 out of Sculpey III. It's harder than it looks! I have three going at once. I'm hoping one may turn out not looking as if the poor fellow is a retired pugilist. I'm using Katherine Dewey's book Creating Lifelike

In 1986 I went on a school tour and we visited a museum somewhere in South Africa either in Pretoria or Pietermaritzburg (South Africa). I photographed this display with my little Kodak Flip Open camera I got in 1982, so the image quality wasn't very good. This little set of furniture made such an impression on me. I don't have any more info on the furniture itself, but the items next to it were clothing from about the early to mid 1800's. I assume the furniture dates from the same time. These were also for the very rich people in South Africa only, and you can see that the

  23. I am totally delighted to report that yesterday I had 4 hours to myself at the house! That hasn't happened for at least a year! Some of my mother's friends decided on a lunch date and came and picked her up, then dropped her off at her nail appointment after lunch. I picked her up after that. So I put on some music, and spread my minis out on the kitchen counter - and constructed 16 windows for my micro house. These are 2-sided, with acrylic "glass" panes in the center. Very tedious work. I don't know which thrilled me more - the progress on the micro house, or having my RL house to myself. Su

Here's the finished kitchen. I never really liked the tile backsplash I put in a few years ago so I redid it with tile paper from Itsy Bitsy Mini. I added basswood and crown molding to the tops of the cabinets so they'd go all the way to the ceiling. More pics and explanation on my blog: http://www.emilymorganti.com/blog/?p=6291

  33. I received my copy of Painted Ladies Revisited and just want to highly recommend for anyone doing this type of painted lady Victorian. Its a big book, lots of big full page pictures and info, Ive gotten soooo much inspiration and ideas from it. Ive also learned a deal about the saga of the old Victorians in SF and what they've survived. It was published in the 80s so in that sense its a little dated with the color schemes but there is still plenty of eye candy

Saw these squares used to make a full-sized little doily and thought they'd make a really neat mini afghan. What do you think? (afghan measures 3-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches and is in my Etsy shop). Definitely had fun making it!

I've discovered several other folks from Wisconsin here, and am even thinking about forming a mini-mini-group....if that makes sense...
