Hi, I'm from the Northeast corner of Massachusetts. Wondering if there are any Miniature shops in this area. Its been over 25 years since I last had an interest in dollhouses and am ready to begin again.

Thanks-Ü

Good morning! Welcome to our little world!. I'm sorry -- I live in the Midwest so can't help with your specific question, but I know that there are others here who live in your area who will, as soon as they wake up!

Have you chosen a house yet? A good place to start looking is right here at the Greenleaf site, both at their company store, and in our albums where you can see what we've done with many of the houses, both Greenleaf and lots of others.

Hi, Ginny! I see you made it safely. How far are you from Amherst, NH? Heidi & some of the others in your neck of the woods can give you more information about other stores, but I had the great good fortune to get to visit Earth & Tree once, and with Ron's in Orlando it's one of the best-stocked dh miniature stores I have ever been in; Kari is wonderfully helpful & knowledgeable.

I am actually just below the Salem, NH border in MA. Where the heck is Orlando? I keep thinking of FL as that is our most favorite winter getaway destination.

I just spent hours reading and copying information on the GLENCROFT. I love it already!

Thanks for your help.

Good Morning Ginny,

Welcome to the forum. Lots of very talented people here. Also wonderful people. You will also get a few laughs. I was born in Falmouth, Mass. on Otis Air Force Base. It is no nonger an air base, but a sort of military airport with sparce activity and alot of restrictions on what kind and how many planes can land. My family are all from Connecticut. From way back. Now I live in south Florida. However, I would love to move back to New England. I would do it tommorow if I could.

Hi and , Ginny!! I'm in Saugus, MA. There is a store, Den of Antiquity, in Danvers. There is also a store in Billerica, but it is closing on the 31st. Otherwise, the only stores I know of and haven't been to are Earth and Tree in NH and the one in Braintree. Hope that helps.

:hmm:

Orlando is slap-dab in the middle of the peninsular part of the state of FL. It used to be a beautiful city until it became a suburb of Disney World (can you tell I'm an old-time Floridian? I have never been to Disney World & only if someone takes my cold, dead body will I ever go!), but bits and pieces of the gracious old citrus center are visible amongst the urban blight, and Ron's is right on the edge on W Colonial Drive (AKA SR 50) about four blocks west of the I-4 interchange.

The Glencroft & Magnolia are tied for my very favorite house to build.

Sorry I'm such a 'goober'!! My husband and I visit WDW at least once a year. It's NOT for children you know-Ü I thought that there was an Orlando that has marvelous Miniature stores that I wasn't aware of--and even better--located even closer to me!!!! Thanks so much for all the Welcomes and help--I love it here already.

Right after Christmas I'm hoping to order the 'GLENCROFT'. What other small versions such as this one are as popular?? I have 3 Granddaughters. I have an AC Moore craft store not too far from me--does anyone know if they sell dollhouse supplies for putting together the houses? My husband has lots of tools, as well as hobby tools ( I'm not sure what they are called) What should I begin gathering together so I'll have it ready when my kit arrives?

You aren't a Goober, Ginny, honey; I'm just a cranky OF. I really do like progress & growth, but not at the expense of our unique & delicate ecology here in FL. You just keep coming back and enjoying WDW & Universal & Epcot! But if you have a few extra days, ride out west on SR 50, stop & shop at Ron's; go on out to US 27 & turn right and head up to Clermont & tour the winery there & sample the tasty muscadne-based wines they make; or turn left and head S to Lake Wales and visit our beautiful Bok Tower and tour the Florida Natural plant; or take a couple of days and go on down to Sebring and spend a day hiking around Highlands Hammock State Park where the deer might come out to watch you and you can take each other's picture at the oldest live oak in that end of the state. And that's just aong US 27 within a day's drive from Orlando; you can also hop on I-4 and head west to Tampa & St Pete (the Dali Museum & Haslam's bookstore are in St Petersburg), or east to Cape Canaveral & the Space Center or Daytona. Here's the link to the trip DH & I took in November.

Sadie, please show pictures of your Willow as you build it.

You're not a "goober", Ginny. I'm just a cranky OF. OF course you just keep right on enjoying WDW, Epcot, Universal & all the rest of it. Next time you come, though, there are some other nice spots to visit. Here's the post I made of our recent trip.

Basic tools are mentioned in the paperwork that comes in the kit. You will want a hobby/ craft knife (or utility knife) and PLENTY of new, sharp blades (nothing is liklier to slice you open faster than a blade beginning to go dull, and please don't ask how we know this); LOTS of masking tape, a good straightedge, a pencil and you cannot have too many clamps. If you want to seal the wood (not necessary if you're going to stain or paint) you can use clear sanding sealer rather than shellac. By all means get yourself some carpenter's wood glue. Do NOT use a hot glue gun to put your house together. You can staple the piece of sandpaper that comes with the kit to a block of wood to make yourself a sanding block, which makes the sanding job nicer. It is impossible to have too many clamps.

There are a lot of tools that are "nice to have" and if this won't be your only house (yeah, I know, "just this one"; been there, done that, and here I am) you'll want to look into getting more goodies; but these'll get you started.

Welcome Ginny!

I grew up in Somerville Mass, moved to Hopkinton as an adult and moved to Marion 2 years ago.

The dollhouse shop in Braintree is called Dollhouse Treasures. Here's their website: http://www.dollhousetreasures.net/

There was a discussion recently about all the miniature stores in MA that have closed. Even some of the big stores, like AC Moore and Michaels, are discontinuing their dollhouse sections. But there are tons of mini websites. Check this out:

You'll have a blast here. You'll learn a lot and see some amazing things! My favorite is the Glencroft; I have 4 of them. But I bought them all already assembled and finished.

Gail

. . . I would love to move back to New England. I would do it tommorow if I could. ;)

Luana, don't do it tomorrow - New England is a sheet of ice! :p
