Juliana 67 Posted March 12, 2014 Wouldn't that be wonderful? Unfortunately it burned to the ground sometime in the early to mid 1980s. I think this photo was taken in the 1950s, so the house had been abandoned a very long time even back then. I read in an old genealogy forum that the grounds around the dilapidated house were once a popular place for families to go for picnics, as it is just a few miles outside of New Orleans. Speculation: Maybe that is how the builder of my dollhouse became acquainted with this place. Maybe he decided to make a replica of it after it burned. He used some artistic license, mainly on the tower/gable top and adding some windows, but he was probably building from memory. I can find very few photos of the place online or in books, and he would have had even fewer resources to go by back then unless he'd had the foresight to take his own photographs. The dollhouse was completed in 1991, post fire, pre-internet. So that is why the "tower" bothers me...it should be a cross gable sloped as steeply as the rest of the roof. The rest of the house, however, is a very good match to the photos. Quote Link to comment
