Grandmother Willow, the spirit of the fairy tree

Shy Spirit

I took an empty cardboard tube from some wrapping paper for the base of my tree trunk. Using wood glue, I applied paperclay to the tube, and added the spirit's face, hair, and body outline. After racking my brain to think of what to use for branch supports, I clipped the wired, green plastic stems from some artificial flowers. The wire made it so easy to shape the branches exactly as I wanted! I attached them to the trunk with masking tape, and then used the wood glue to add paperclay over the supports. Willow spirit felt very kind as soon as she appeared - I think she was helping me along as I worked on the rest of the project. :)

As gorgeous as this turned out, I cannot believe this was our first time using paperclay. Thank you so much for showing how you made this tree. I would never had thought of a paper tube as a base.

Beautiful and inspired work. Thank you for sharing.
