Herringbone - can you see the gaps?

I put that picture in because I wanted to show the 'before' of the parquet. When I'm finished with it there won't be any gaps. After staining I use a thinned out varnish and with sanding in-between coats the gaps fill with the stained sawdust. On the last floor I tinted the varnish with the stain to make sure that the gaps fill and become invisible.

Great job.  Watching your progress inspired me to try using veneer instead of Popsicle sticks on my current build.  They make great paint stirrers!

I used a cheap paper cutter (guillotine) and it worked really well. I precut 9 inch strips, split them in half down the length and then cut 3/4 inch strips.
