Wallpaper adhesive - first attempt

otterine

This wallpaper is Leaves of Love by Penny Lane. I love the color, pattern and vibrance with all the Warm White going on in this room.

I've been having longevity issues with Yes paste. I usually apply it with a brush and it works well for applying the paper. But, I've had a number of papers buckle and loosen over time. Since I'm not one to redecorate often, this is a problem. I saw many people recommending regular wallpaper adhesive from the hardware store, so I picked up a tub to try from the local True Value.

No, I didn't follow my own advice and do a sample first, so I had some issues. This particular paper is thin. Even though I used a foam brush to apply a very thin layer of adhesive to the wall, the paper wrinkled as it absorbed the moisture in the adhesive. Luckily, I picked up a roller and was able to keep rolling it until the paper flattened out for the most part.

Since this is a busily patterned paper, you can't tell there's a subtle texture under it now that it is dry even though you can feel it slightly. (I read later on Gina's site More Minis that my issue might have been applying the paste to the wall instead of the paper. I'll need to try that approach to see if it helps.)

For the next part of the wall, I applied less adhesive and had a hard time getting the paper to stick at all. So, it seems it will be a delicate balance when using thin papers such as this. It still worked, though.

What are the wires for? I needed to glue the brick insert on while I could press the wall flat, but that meant I couldn't install lights until after the insert was in place. Chicken or the egg issue - so I ran some wires behind the insert beforehand.

I love the paper Brae... and I hope the paste works for you... I like Wallpaper Mucilage... I haven't had any problems with it letting loose and I've used it on pretty much every type of surface... if you don't have luck with the wallpaper paste you might want to try it... I like it :)

Ditto what Kelly said...I've also been using ModPodge to install some of the thicker papers from Itsy Bitsy. So far working great, although I did have to weigh it down.
