Steampunk House Kitchen Fireplace Detail
This is a close-up of the fireplace, found in the Kitchen.
It's loosely based on a small houseboat fireplace I saw during a trip to 1000 Islands, NY.
Made to look like riveted brass, it's made out of balsa wood, egg carton, paper, polymer clay, and metallic gold/matte black acrylic paint. The back splash is corrugated scrapbooking paper on cardboard. It's the same corrugated paper used for the shingles on this house, but I cut it to look more like tiles. Both the fireplace and back splash have been sealed with Polycrylic, which also adds to the shine. The logs are sticks from outside, given a light wash of white gesso to give them a nice color contrast from the fireplace.
