sheet of "Super Petals"

WyckedWood

My mini review of the Super Petals kit :-)

The Super Petals kit comes in two sheets, they are laser cut. For some reason one sheet is thicker than the other. This is the thicker one, it has a green tint to it, the other sheet is thinner paper and is all white. Both still need to be painted. There is only basic instruction with them, so I wasn't prepared for how fragile they were. This sheet (the thicker one) was easier to deal with because the petals didn't tear as easily, but they did still tear if I wasn't very very careful. I used several different shades of green acrylic paint to paint them...then some pastels and finally a satin gloss and a matte spray. So, a little advice if anyone is considering this kit: Don't use water color or have too much water in your brush, the thinner sheet especially will tear badly with any water on it. Lay down something like freezer paper to paint them on, something they can be lifted off of as smoothly as possible. Be patient and go slooooooow when taking them from the sheet and when painting them. After they are dry and especially after the matte acrylic spray treatment theyre much less fragile and can be played around with, arranged over and over until you reach the look you want. I had enough leaves to do two large hanging plants and two small potted plants for table accents. This kit made me almost cry, but most things that end up turning out kinda cool do make me almost cry so that's Ok. I want to get several more of these, I really like the way they look and theres so many places in the house where I want lush, full plants:-)

I love these Karin but its funny you should say they are fragile. The ones I got were made of a sort of textured plastic stuff - ok not plastic, if you imagine a sort of very thin waterproof fabric, they were like that and pretty robust. The backing paper was fragile and the good thing is that you can use both the front material and the backing paper painted - double leaves for your money. They do make great plants though. I used them in my Spring Fling last year and in Victoria Villa before that to make a hanging plant on a pedestal - that was effective. I didn't paint that one, just left it in the original green colour.

So, the white sheet was backing paper? My thin white sheet wasn't connected to the green one at all. I just thought it was two sheets of different "weight" and maybe the heavier paper was supposed to be the bottom of the plant and the lighter paper would sort of "curl" better and make the top of the plant look more realistic. Interesting! :-)

Jo, I just went back and looked at the green sheet. The green "plastic" does separate from the harder backing and I had no idea! That's wheat I meant by not very good instructions on these. That info would have given me an extra sheet of leaves. BLIMEY. The entire time I was painting these and breaking them from the sheet nothing indicated to me that the light plastic or filmy stuff would separate.

So, basically if you separate the green from the backing, I also had another white sheet that came with my kit...that would have given me 3 sheets total.
