Servant's bedroom

This room was off a rather elegant bedroom, through a sort of sliding door in the panelling. The bedroom would have been for important visitors and this room was where their servant would have slept - yes that shelf is his bed. Hard to guage size from a picture but it was quite big - about as big as a double bed.

Just enlarged the pic, I see it looks like it slopes upward under there. Medieval servants: "no room! no room! sleep under the bed!" Late arrival replies with medieval version of "Aw, mannnn. oh crap".

The white bit of wall on the extreme left of the picture was the chimney stack. The kitchen was immediately below and the fires would have been lit most of the time I believe so this would have probably been the warmest bed in the house.
