Bespaq bed makeover, base coat

otterine

You might recall from my previous photo, the original finish was too dark and the bedding too large for scale. I primed it with grey spray paint to cover the red wood and varnish shine. Here it is after a few coats of Krylon Almond in satin finish. :D We're getting there!

There are a few imperfections in the paint coverage, but those will be hidden by the bedding. I'm thinking of adding some aging and hand-painted detailing. I won't go all out like the vanity, but I think this bed will coordinate well with it.

I think painting this was perfect. The shiny-ness of some of these pieces is just too much. Plus, if ever you decide to move this bed to another house, the ivory will lend itself to anything. I just recently used this exact same paint on HBS 4poster bed. I probably should have sanded it first but for me, the imperfections just added to the charm of the bed.

Thanks! :D I sanded only the original imperfections that had been literally varnished over. I think a little wearing away of the paint might be called for on this piece...add some age to it.

What an amazing piece of art. It could be in a case all by itself and be a focal point of conversation. And I love the color. Can't wait to see how you decorate it with bedding.
