otterine 4,559 Posted February 14, 2012 Love the wood grain - what type of wood is that? Quote Link to comment
Reliving My Childhood 17 Posted February 15, 2012 It's just regular old Hobby Lobby wood sheets in pine. I buy all they have when they go 50% off and frequently use my 40% coupon on them because they're $13 for a <11x17 sheet. I actually prefer to use the sheets from Miniature Designs or HBS because they're very thin (like a veneer) but I can't always afford them. Unless I'm using the entire sheet "as is", I always slit them down to 3-plank pieces so that I can use my easy cutter to mitre them. The grain will show up much better once I add a stain or low gloss sealer. HL now carries a nice dark flooring too but it costs more... I prefer to have the control of color. Quote Link to comment
kreativitea75 79 Posted February 20, 2012 I buy those HL floors all the time, too. At 40 or 50% off, it makes flooring affordable and they finish up really nice if you take your time. Your floor is beautiful! I never thought of splitting them like that to make the cutting easier, and these look so much nicer than a plain floor. Quote Link to comment
Reliving My Childhood 17 Posted February 21, 2012 I just always try to do something a little different so my houses don't look the same as everyone elses. I get torn between being excited and dismayed about seeing the ever-present HLobby stuff, including papers. I get excited because I think I pick out nice things and feel like if other people pick them too then we must all have great taste! But then I get dismayed a bit because 1) who doesn't like to be an individual? and 2) because it reminds me that in many ways, this hobby can be so limiting because most of us just have the same few places (and budgets) we can shop over and over again.
