Kari Lynn

I have never built a kit from the very start. I have two houses that were already built that I am remodelling and a couple others that were partially built that I finished, but I have realized I would really like to start from the box to the finished product myself. The remodelling projects were getting boring for me and I needed a change. So I am starting with The Orchid. Here, I scribed the lines for the floors and stained...I found out that I do not like to scribe lines.

Nice job!

Thank you. I must say that at first I had my doubts about how this technique would look but I was very happy with the result. And it is much quicker and easier than cutting strips of wood and staining them for the floor boards

They look great. How did you do it?

Thanks.

The first one, I used every pointy object I could find and ran it along a wood strip that was the width I wanted. Then after I finished the first one I found a scribing tool...and that made a world of difference, much easier.

And since I have a chemical sensitivity(which makes it real hard to finish a dh) I used a dark brown Delta paint mixed with Delta varnish, sponged it over the wood to get it into the lines then wiped over it with a clean cloth to get off any extra. When it dried I used a lighter delta paint and sponged it on with a wet sponge until it was the color I wanted making sure to go over the whole thing again with a clean cloth (this of course caused some warpage because of the water , but was easily fixed by putting a piece of foil over it and then a board with bricks on it to let it flatten back out) When it was dry and flat again I sealed it with Delta gloss varnish.
