Finished floor

I decided to add some detail to the dining room and living room floors. Here in the living room I just added a black trim. I didn't have a dark stain, so I just used black paint. The 'bump-out' at the top is where the fireplace will go.

Can you use other colors. Like green, tan,brown or off white(cream) then stain over it. To help it blind or take on wood color or inlayed look.
