Medieval Market Street - Florence, Italy

Medieval Market Street - Florence, Italy

Imagine a thriving medieval market in Florence, Italy circa 1345, right before the Black Death. The fishmonger offers rainbow trout, crawdads, mackerel, and eels all caught in the nearby Arno River (and all made of Fimo!). Prefer meat? Take a look at the butcher offering wild-caught hare, pheasant, wild-tuscan boar, sausage, steaks and even a freshly-caught goose which is being slaughtered in the upper level workroom. Fresh bread, hot out of the oven, can be purchased at the bakery. And don't forget the fresh vegetables or flowers sold by vendors on the busy street. Enjoy a beautiful Tuscan afternoon while you can.

This Spring Fling kit was exciting to bash into a medieval market street. The tuscan bricks were made with wall board joint compound, and painted and distressed. The street is made of egg carton stones, as are the bread oven and butcher's fireplace. All of the food items and many of the small accessories were created by hand by my 13 year old daughter. Enjoy!

Thank you. It was mostly her history project. She researched what medieval shopkeepers would have and created many items.
