My little garden

CatColorado

This is what I am doing instead of miniatures right now. I like to take a picture right after planting because experience has taught me that this may be as good as it gets. The geraniums and portulaca tend to do well, I have high hopes for the marigolds, but everything else is part of the great gardening experiment. The pictures help me remember what I planted so I can add them to the plant this/not that list.

Marigolds are very hardy, unless you have slugs which love to eat them. If they start looking chewed, you have them. They are fairly easy to get rid of with slug bait(from any garden store), or a shallow dish of beer will take care of them, too. Looks beautiful!

Thank you! I just needed to see flowers, they help.

Yes, the statue is a kitty with binoculars. There is a small bird sitting on the binoculars, peeking into the lenses.

Slugs, yuck. We had huge ones when I still lived in Maryland. I think my Marigolds are safe since they are up so high. Given our desert climate, the slugs would likely dry out before making it to the top shelf. The geraniums are the ones in imminent peril. I can't remember, do slugs eat geraniums? I guess I could look it up, or invest in a copper barrier. I worry about the beer, we have stray cats roaming around and they will drink the beer. It's amazing what cats will get into, long ago we had a cat who drank coffee of all things. Didn't dare leave a cup out unattended.
