still trying things out

Debora59

This is a pic of my latest efforts to create the elegant staircase.

When I tried to put on a light paint wash I found out that balsa reacts differently to moisture. So now I am scared to try paint effects but I will have to take my chances I guess.

Its just a dry fit

I love this view! :p Not only are you a talented miniaturist, but as a photographer as well!

The railing looks great- sure hope the balsa cooperates so you are able to achieve the look you want.

Thank you both!, no marble effect is planned. And I spend probably too much time on the perfect view for the picture. But its just so important.

Did the balsa start to twist?? I used thin strips for "Tudoring" my SF'10 and was horrified whrn the strips twisted...but when I painted the other side they straightened out.Hope that helps!! And this is looking real good by the way..and yes, your picture taking rocks also!!

I've found the best result for painting balsa is to use a very, very, very thin coat of paint, let it dry completely and then repeat. Basically, introduce the smallest amount of moisture to the wood as possible.

BTW, really like the railings. Great job.
