Tobi

Last October (so he was 6 months old) - like an idiot - I decided to let Tobi run free while I took a shower (normally he's either in his crate or in the bathroom with me).

This is what happened in that 20 minutes. He had grabbed a 4-pack of cat food off the counter and managed to tear it open and puncture one of the cans (actually, he completely mangled the can). When it squirted juice on the carpet of the landing, he tried to get to all of it by yanking the carpet away and eating it.

Anyone who's ever had a puppy knows that accidents are going to happen and that in several years, antics like this will be fondly remembered (no, I'm not there yet). Fortunately for us, we chose to get Tobi when we did because we planned on replacing all the flooring in the house this coming Spring. We wanted to make sure all the puppy problems were gone before we went to the expense of replacing anything.

You're absolutely right! We have 2 dogs... Tobi and Sara.

We got Sara first when she about 1 year old. While it was nice not having to deal with training, we also had no cuddly puppy pictures or stories to tell about crazy things she did.

Not really too much different than kids... who wants to repeat the diaper or "NO" or teenage years? But would you ever give up the smell of baby lotion on a freshly bathed infant or watching them walk for the first time or seeing them graduate from high school?

That's how I feel about chewed shoes, carpet stains, and howling for Mama from the crate at 3am... its all worth it in the end.
