Living Room & Study

The paper in the living room (downstairs) is actually pure ivory with a black geometric design. It doesn't look nearly as greenish-yellow as this photo shows. And if you may think that these 2 patterns are crazy together, you're right. But I'm keeping the patterns on the side walls so that when you look at it head on, there will be symmetry with the back walls (which, btw, will be lightly colored a very neutral tan) all being the same color.

Now, I'm not trying to insult anyone because Lord knows I do this to all my houses (real and mini)... it drives me nuts after I finish building something, then load it up with furniture, and finally take a step back and - gasp - every room is a different color. What was I thinking? Shouldn't there be a common thread in style and color? My last house had a blue dining room with Victorian furnishings, a red living room with a mixture of modern and older furniture, a gold kitchen with modern appliances, and very fluffy pink bed and bathroom with country furniture. Really?!

Still, we really can't limit ourselves can we? There's so much beautiful stuff out there and we want to try and cram it all in to just one house. Anyway... I blather on.

The finishes of wood furniture will be in the same color family. I have this horror of mixing wood colors (oak with cherry with pine). And the floors will all match as well.

You make me laugh! but I totally understand where you are coming from on the whole color design thing! Personally, I think a modern house like this just begs for that type of symmetry.

BTW- where are you getting your wallpapers!? They are AWESOME!!

I make MYSELF laugh sometimes with the goofy things I run into (like having to cut a 1/4" off each side of the far left room last night because I undercut the base and am too cheap to buy a whole 'nother sheet).

The "wallpaper" is scrapbook paper from Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I like it better because its so much stiffer than dh paper (which you really need if you're dealing with foam core - especially foam with a veritable constellation of markings on it).

And I agree with you about the idea of a completely harmonious decorating theme with modern homes. I could've left all the walls the same color but I think I would've missed my chance then to do some of these bold funky prints. While I like the cool factor of modern homes, in reality, I'd go nutso in a minimalistic environment. This particular house of mine won't be cluttered (unless you count some of that headache-inducing paper) but it won't be stark, either.
