The Egyptian Queen - close up

Jo Med

It was tempting to go a bit overboard with the eye make up but I think less is more in her case.

OMG Jo, all of your dolls look so good! You really should consider doing it professionally.

Do you have a mold that you use to get a basic face shape and then go from there or do you sculpt free hand? I'm asking because I'd like to try my hand at one, but have no idea where to start with it.

Thanks for the kind words Tiffanie. No I don't have a mold for the faces, I sculpt each one separately but I think that some of them do look a bit alike.

If you want to have a go at scuplting Tiffanie check out the Jody Creager videos on You Tube - that's where I started, they are really good and encouraged me to have a go at it. The first couple of dolls were quite hard work and I balled up and tossed more clay than you would believe but after a while they started to get a bit easier - same with anything you do I suppose.

Tip - buy a little hat off e-bay, a Heidi Ott man's or woman's hat and use that as a guide for the size of the head. Make your men about 6" tall and your women a bit smaller. I use a 6" cutting mat to work on and it acts as a guide for proportions.
