Rhonda from the Bluegrass Picture 1
I live in the beautiful Bluegrass state of Kentucky. For the first time ever, the World Equestrian Games will be held in the U.S.A. Since these famous games are being held in my own town of Lexington, I wanted to create a miniature piece to commemorate this special event. I felt that this year's Spring Fling kit was a wonderful choice to get me "off on the right track" (pardon the pun!). So without further ado, here is the story of the Excelsior Equestrian Center.
***************************************************************************************************
Located in the beautiful Bluegrass region, the Excelsior offers both entertainment and education in equestrian pursuits. The Excelsior Racetrack provides many exciting moments for track enthusiasts, and the adjoining stables not only house some of the world's most famous thoroughbreds, they are home to the many patient horses and instructors who have taught beginning riders the joys of riding.
At the heart of all this activity is the Excelsior Equestrian Center.
Originally built in the 1800's, it was originally a private home and it has remained in the same family since that time. It now houses the wagering hall, where not only many a fortuitous bet has been placed, but where beautiful equestrian art is sold. Many of these lovely paintings are by local artists. If art isn't your thing, then you can go into the gift shop where there is a large selection of items for the equestrian .
. . both young and old. The selection includes all things equestrian:
horse toys for the kids, saddle blankets for that pampered horse you own, beautiful painted china plates for the dinner table, and of course . . . many lovely figurines for that discerning collector!
There is also a VIP lounge for very special guests. That area is by invitation only, and if you are fortunate enough to receive an invitation, you can count on being the lucky recipient of the best wines & liquors, appetizing foods . . . many of which are regional specialties, and entertainment.
The small office handles a multitude of tasks . . . including ringing up sales from the gift shop, setting up special events, brokering purchases of extravagantly expensive thoroughbreds (which will, hopefully, pay off in dividends unimaginable to most of us), and of course, handling publicity for the many exciting events that bring in so many famous faces. For such a tiny space, a lot of really exciting things go on in here all the time!
I'm sure the Excelsior will be a favorite destination for many during the World Equestrian Games of 2010!
