Cut out more than enough pieces with an xacto knife.

Cut strips of your width and then cut them into smaller pieces. This helps to keep accuracy.

I used 1/16" bass wood on this floor. It is easy to cut with an xacto knife and hard enough to hold up to mini furniture.
