Living Room Fireplace

deb's designs

This fireplace is made from paperclay.

It will be free standing between the living and dining rooms.

The design came from an antique fireplace we purchased years ago and moved before we were able to use it.

Thanks so much for the complement Debora,

This was the first thing I tried with paperclay, so I'm no expert.

The marble section of the fireplace was made using a wood frame. I rolled out thin sheets of paperclay and glued them to the wood with a thin layer of wood glue. After it dries you can carve it or add more paperclay. Then I sanded them and painted it to look like marble. I coated it with a shiny clear coat (test first some turn yellow). The brick and slate were also paperclay.

Ok I have done some research on paper clay what a great medium. Is your piece here made of paperclay over something else like cardboard

ok I see you have already told us what you used with the paper clay. Thank you.

Have you ever been to Frog Morton Studios? if not you will love it. lots of use of paper clay in his miniature castles and interiors.
