I used the mdf stair assembly that came with the Newport kit, but I couldn't get the look of painted risers with stained wood stairs. No matter how well I masked the edges, they came out uneven. I modified them by shaving off the lip on the front and adding my own separate tread pieces. While I was at it, I glued on some laser cut embellishments to replace the plain stringer that came with the kit. I will add a railing further along in the build.
