The slate is a woodsie, painted black, with narrow basswood strip trim. "Chalk" is a bugle bead. I didn't want to risk ruining the slates by trying to write on them, and by the time I figured out how to do reverse color printing in Paint, I was too bleary eyed to proceed with any confidence. Hence, all the students have a blank slate, which isn't a bad thing after all.
