Mom's Box: Wide Shot

welcomehomeminis

Mom's box follows a lot of the same ideas as Dad's.

We used scrapbooking papers for the walls, separated by a stained chair rail. The flooring is cork meant for scrapbooking, with a matte varnish on it. The rug was handmade from upholstery fabric and the edge of a piece of lace trim, which looked great in scale once I cut the rest of the lace off it.

Mom's two red shelves on the walls are bashed from the same long shelf that created the shelf in Dad's box, and custome painted by us. Amazing what you can get out of one broken item bought for about 50¢! The plates and vase on her shelves are purchased. The plates were inexpensive because their thickness is all out of scale, but in a roombox like this that doesn't really show. Great cheat.

The birthday balloons are the same as Dad's, with our handwritten Happy Birthdays, only two of Mom's got to stay in their original cheery colors. The orange one was custom-colored.

The frame for the photo was handmade by me, with more scrapbooking paper matting the photo. (The photo is an aerial view of the motel Mom and Dad own and run.)

The table is—did you guess?—the other end of the broken table used in Dad's roombox. Chopped off about one-third of the long dining table for use here. The finish it came in didn't need any changing for this cozy country scene. The tablecloth is a piece of quilting calico, with pink accents and edging handpainted on to the fabric to bring it into the color scheme for the box.

The chair is entirely handmade (I couldn't find a skinny enough chair for this scene, so I made it.) We upholstered it in red dupioni silk.
