Of course deciding where to start depends on the condition. What really needs to be done? Is the wallpaper shot? Colors just not right? Floors okay? How's the wiring? Those are all basics and this will be the best time to address and change them before you replace the stairways. It looks like it's in pretty good condition. I usually strip off old wallpaper that's peeling and replace or paint the walls. I also like to clean, sand, and refinish floors (or lay new wood floor veneer over old).

Do you have any vision of what you'd like to make it? It's almost ski-lodgey. I can imagine cozy window seats and maybe a fireplace or two.

I just built a fireplace for the livingroom. Might make one for the gameroom, too. I love the idea of window seats, I think I will try that. Thanks!
