Westerfield House "The Russian Embassy"

Lynette Smith

"The Westerfield House" by Nancy Spruance is a project I did about a decade ago. Built in 1889 for William Westerfield In about 1928 it was sold to Russian emigres who used it as their community center. It had a nightclub and a restaurant called "Dark Eyes" in the basement level ballroom. In the 1960's it became a hippie commune. From 1969 to 1983 it was restored into a single family home. The house had 28 rooms!

I've always been fond of it, because it reminds me of a house we lived in for about 20 months when I was in kindergarten and first grade.

I've thought about how to make some of these smaller. Maybe on the finest count silk gauze, about 64 for stitches per inch. I think I might have to addpet a bit!
