German Pewter Pitchers, Souvenirs of WWII

These two pitchers were part of a collection of memerobelia collected by a G.I. around the time the Americans reached Berlin. Some of the collection had been sold off prior to my friend, then an antique dealer, purchased it. Amongst the documentation was a note about cigarettes recovered from Eva Braun's apartment (there were also photos, which were still part of the collection, so I have no reason to doubt its authenticity). The objects in the collection which interested me were the two pewter pitchers.

The pitchers, though very similar, have minute differences in their details. There is a metal hinge fragment where a lid was attached. These two pitchers were stated in the documentation to have been retrieved from the personal effects of a dead German soldier (morbid, yes. But they were beautiful and obvoulsy had great sentimental value for the soldier to have carried them.)
