Spinning Wheels
I have a collection of spinning wheels. One is a full scale traditional model, one is Indian and folds up into the size of a book (full scale and functional). Two are miniatures.
The larger one I purchased at an antique store my best friend owned. It has hand turned spindled legs which have subtle differnces in the shapes of the turnings - indicating it was not made with mass-produced spindles. The small moving part which would hold the material to be spun is hand carved. It is roughly playscale, and I purchased it as a prop for my rather large Barbie collection.
The second is one of those highly detailed pencil sharpener with moving parts. I got it as part of an Ebay purchase. It could be slightly small for 1:12 scale, or it could be accurate for a smaller version. I haven't seen this design in real life (I must plan a trip to the Pioneer Museum!). Since it is operated by a treadle, I would assume the operator would be seated, balancing on one foot for an extended time seems impractical.
