Here's a somewhat better picture of the staircase I'm absconding from this house. I do have the spindles and newel post that appear to be missing. This pic shows the banister that goes around the second floor stairwell. It has a built-in curved niche for the upper corner and the built-in bench has a hinged seat that lifts up.

I have to ask - where do you find all these Big - unusual dollhouses??

Often word-of-mouth. People know that I'm into miniatures. Friends have said things like, "One of my co-worker's mother passed away and she doesn't know how to get rid of her dollhouse collection...." I've had people simply GIVE them to me as well. They're moving, down-sizing, couldn't sell or don't have time to, and just need them gone. I'm lucky that I've had the pleasure of being able to be pretty choosy. If the house isn't "special" in some way, I don't bother.

I also make the stupid mistake of looking on Craigslist whenever we're on vacation. That's fine for little things I can put into a suitcase but oh boy am I in trouble if I find a bargain on a house! We once cancelled our return flights and drove a little U-haul from Los Angeles to Colorado to drag home two Lawbre houses (not this one). Hey, I got them for less than the cost of just the windows alone! I will never be doing that again. The hubs loved it - for some reason we'd never got around to visiting beautiful southern Utah - but he is adamant that was the last time!

I'm obsessed. Or crazy. Probably the latter.
