Medieval 519 Posted January 10, 2021 I found lace I thought would make a good "carving" for my fireplace upstairs. I tested it on scrap wood. I'm making the mantle the same color as the trim, which is an ivory called cafe cream. My paint is an interior matte latex. I'm wondering if anyone has ever watered it down a bit when painting so the latex doesn't fill in texture of the lace so much? If no one has any experience with that then I'll do a test and report back! Quote Link to comment

Maybe paint the background as many coats as needed for acceptable coverage with undiluted paint before gluing on the lace? Then paint the lace separately, laying it on waxed paper, so any filled-in bits can be poked clean with a toothpick or something similar. Glue it on after it has dried and stiffened. ... just a thought 1 Quote Link to comment
