Test Window and Shutters

Kells

Fourth shade of gray I've tried and the fifth shade of green. Otterine was kind enough to tell me her pretty green door for her 1915 post office was Woodland Green. I think it's perfect! Her project here:

Not sure of the Dove Gray though. Other grays were too dark, too blueish, too greenish, too WRONG. What do you think of this one? Should I try some color other than gray?

Weird, the gray now looks blueish on my monitor. It doesn't IRL. It's just a soft pure gray. And not that it matters, but I do know to mount the shutters on the window frame, lol. I just set them next to the window for the photo.

I wonder if what is bothering you about the window panes is not so much the color but that it is so even. In real life, there would be reflections, hints of window treatment inside, a play of light and shadow, etc. Maybe add dry-brushed streaks with lighter and darker tones for a more irregular surface?

That's probably part of the problem. I've just been trying to get the right gray and haven't done any special techniques. Waiting to do that chore when I think the color is right. I'm not posting a photo of it but one gray I tried was really dark, and the green on the shutters was also very dark. They were so close in tonal value you could hardly tell where the window ended and the shutters began, lol. That's the sort of thing I've been working through with these.

The grey bothers me.I can see  a cream color with the green shutters.

Me too. It's the only color I've been trying because I'm stuck on the Hermann-Grima house.
