Micro mesh screen

otterine

Trying out two materials for the screen door. The black steel is more durable but a little large for scale. The aluminum micro mesh is better for scale but damages easily. The damaged bits rather add to the realism, though. I will test these in dry fit with the building to make a final decision.

I like the micro mesh.  I don't see any damage on it, but even if it does get a bit damaged, as you said, that will add to the realism.  (I forget.  Will there be a cat in your post office? :))  I really like the green color, too.

There might be a cat at the post office, which means I'll need MORE damage to the screen. :D

What Debra said. Will you age the micro screen?

I tried the Aluminum Black, but it devoured the mesh. It doesn't take spray paint at all.  I will try a few more tests, but also - this is a "new" post office set in c. 1915.

You're clever with finishes. You'll think of something. :)  Maybe try a wash of India ink? That won't dissolve the mesh and could knock down the too-new shininess.

You know me - I will tape a bunch of samples to some boards and have at it. Something will work!

I actually really like this one - it looks more natural and personally I think it gives you the look you're after.  I'm not sure if it's the size or colour that puts me off the other....

Yes, I was already leaning toward it, but the overwhelming agreement has sealed the deal! :D

Funny I was dealing with this very issue this past weekend! Looking for mesh to make a screen door for the trailer. No one local had the mesh you are using Brae so I was stuck. An employee at Michael's showed me Tulle. I was a bit skeptical but gave it a shot. Misted aluminum paint on it and by golly it looks pretty good! Still have to paint the door before I update my gallery photos. Nobody believes me when I tell people the screen is made out of the same stuff as tutu's :)

Awesome work!

Thanks so much!  I've worked with tulle, and it would drive me batty trying to get it to work over a large patch like the screen door. :D
