Shop Sign Lettering

Bluestocking

The carpet shop sign was done using the old grade-school trick of homemade graphite paper.  I printed out the lettering exactly as I wanted it, rubbed a No.2 pencil thoroughly over the back of the paper, temporarily taped it in place, then traced around the letters with a fine ballpoint pen.  The outlines are pale but fairly easily visible in a strong light -- I did have to use my contact-lens-less near-sighted eyes though, as I couldn't see it very well even with readers.  I used a 10/0 spotter brush to paint inside the outlines, using Martha Stewart Metallic paint in gold, slightly watered down.

Very clever! I was planning on trying vinyl for my own shop sign but I might give this some consideration! Thank you for sharing

I couldn't find vinyl lettering in anything like the font or size I wanted, so I was very happy when this worked!
