So it turns out that the Japanese power sits at 100volts whereas NZ is 230-240 volts.  This would have been the same for the other machine I was looking at as well which was 110v.  So we bought this large transformer.  It has a nob on top which I can turn to any voltage so I'll be able to use it for several different machines if necessary.

We have one of these so we can use American appliances here in Denmark. Some stuff I can just use an adapter but others I actually need the transformer. It’s really handy!
