A little more shabby than chic...

Shareb

Okay, so once completely glued I found that I must have misjudged my measurements.  The bottom needed to be cut off about 4mm and the top needed to be sanded back by about 1.5mm.

It now fits but the skirting is now considerably shorter and not even at the bottom; the wall behind where I cut the skirting now needs to be tidied; The achitraving isn't really achitraving any more and I'm worried that even a coat of paint may be too thick.  Seriously - it's like you take two steps forward and one step back the whole time.  Arrgghh....:hmm::cry:

Don't be too hard on it. From here, it looks very elegant. Once it is painted and in place, only you will know that it didn't meet your [extremely high] standards. :)

Thanks people!  I haven't gone out to my cottage today.  The weather has been horrible - a last hurrah for winter, and I haven't felt the best.  Plus I just can't face it - I was so looking forward to having it finished because I loved how it was going.  Yes, I'll fix it - but it would be so nice to actually get something right the first time for a change!  It's funny.....as I go on I feel more and more confident with using the tools, doing the work, painting - miniatures in general.  However even though I'm sure my workmanship has improved I still make so many dumb mistakes!!  It's very frustrating. :(

I thought I was the only one who had to do thing over again. My Pierce bathroom floor, I’m on my fourth try. The last one ( the one I liked the most) was white and when I put the varnished on, it turned yellow in some spots. You get things done so fast.  The front looks great, I can’t see any problems with it...

I have to agree with the people who say it looks beautiful!  I really don't see the flaws. That said, I can understand wanting things to look the way you envision them.  I have total empathy on the do-over thing.  I have said my current build should be called the "do everything twice" build, because it seems as though I am rarely happy with my first try, and have to keep re-doing things until I'm satisfied.  On the plus side, it's a great learning experience, and I am always happy that I didn't leave things with my first try.  Your work is so lovely.  While I know it can be disheartening to have to do something again, I have no doubt that you'll be pleased by the final result. :)

What a bummer with your bathroom floor!  How annoying that would have been!  I am so surprised to hear that I get things done fast.  I think the opposite!  I've only done this wall....I still have three more on the 2nd floor to do!  Still - after doing this, I reckon the others will be easier.  Certainly I'm pretty happy with how I've done the panelling.  The middle bit is silicon from one of the icing molds I have.

Thanks Deb.  I glued this all so well that I will ruin the wooden wall should I attempt to take it off.  But I'm pretty sure I can patch it up.  I have to remember that these places I build have been lived in and so often will not be perfect, 'show-room' new!  I just finished telling someone else to beware of perfectionistic tendencies!

Thanks all - I do really appreciate the support and encouragement from all of you!  You're right Kathie - I do have to let go of some of my unattainable (at least at this point) standards! :D  I look at work by people who do this for a living - work that ends up in museums etc!  I look at that and think, how can I achieve something that good!  It is all learning for sure and I do enjoy it.  So no doubt after a couple of days to cool, I'll be back out there tomorrow to see how to best 'fix' this wall!

I think it looks great. I would go with it cause I really think it is beautiful.  I am always second guessing and making mistakes.  But if you think about it, imperfections can be just as beautiful if not more- than getting it perfect every time.  I've never lived in a perfect house, so I don't expect any of my builds to be perfect.    But that is coming from someone who it very quirky and eccentric.

I would love to be quirky and eccentric!  Homeschooling my kids was quirky compared to others....but I do love the idea of being eccentric!
