AlpacaRug.jpg

Debsrand56

To cover the trap door when the room is in use, I made an “alpaca” rug (very similar to one my grandparents had in their rec room) that my homeowners picked up on their travels in South America.  It is made from scraps of velvet, cut out and glued to a plain fabric back, with fuzzy yarn providing the fluffy “fur” border.

Very cute, I have both an Aplaca named Spice and a Llama named Bud.  I have been thinking of a crossstich rug for a llama or alpaca, they are so much alike!

How fun that you actually have two.  I have heard that they can be very sweet, and that they hum when they are happy.

Both alpacas and llamas have a wide variety of hums depending on their mood, I can always tell what they are feeling by the tone and cadence of the hum, some are excited, some just content, some are danger or annoyance hums, sometimes my boys spar, but in general they do fine together.  The llama is a guard animal for my sheep, the alpaca tags along, alpacas are a little fluffy in the head compared to llamas, but Spice is a sweetheart, so is Bud for that matter!

Oh my! How adorable.. I like your method too.. I love people's cross stitch and punch needle rugs.. but this is something I might actually be able to achieve.. fantastic idea, thanks Deborah. :D
