Mostly finished

SewMini

The most terrifying step is yet to come: grouting. For now, I'm just appreciating the pretty pattern these made. Really glad I took the plunge and redid this floor.

And for the inquiring minds, I was NOT able to salvage the original floor :( My poor choice of using hardboard to replace the warped plywood came back to haunt me and I just couldn't save it. The top layer of the particle board came up in quite a few spots. Not enough to make the hardboard unusable but enough to make the plank floor unusable. I resealed the floor, gave it a good paint with the same burnt sienna color and then glued the tiles onto that. These adhered REALLY well so no changing my mind again.

So sorry you lost your wood floor, but this really is a great improvement.  I don't think you'll need to change your mind again.  ;-)

I know I won't :) I really think this is JUST what the house needed and now the flow between the kitchen and the living room is just spot on. Now it really does feel like a Casa and I love the tie in with Barcelona. I know it was totally ridiculous to go to all the trouble to make them when you can probably barely see it but I know it's there!

These look AMAZING in the house!... I know what you mean about grout being the scariest part... I find grouting my egg carton bricks terrifying... is it going to ruin my paint job? Am I going to be able to get it off the brick?.... lol

I think you should try to rub it into the grout line areas only and then quickly wipe it off with a slightly damp cloth... do it in sections so you can get the grout off while it's still wet.

Thank you all for the compliments! It's so great to have a little part of the internet where I can post these photos and not get the "You're crazy, lady" side eye :D

This this this! The texture that the paint left is so slight Im afraid to ruin it. I keep reminding myself, though, that the kitchen ones came out fine so there's hope. I agree with you on doing it in small sections. Im also going to do the piping bag method to limit grout getting ALL over the tiles. Fingers crossed that it all goes ok. I still cant decide what color to do though. Im stuck between a matching terracotta color or a charcoal grey. I def. dont want to go light grey.

I know right? Scary stuff! Piping bag sounds like a great idea.

I think the contrast of the grey would be nice.. you don't want to lose the lovely shape of your tile with matching grout. Plus, it seems a little more traditional to me to have grey grout. :)

Ooh Edit!: And it would tie into the greys in you kitchen. :D
