Basement Studio Apartment

This is the basement apartment main room.

Originally I was going to have the kitchenette at the front beside the front door and under the window, but it didn't leave me enough room for a sofa bed or murphy bed up by the bathroom. So I've had to switch it around. The kitchenette will now be a galley style at the rear near the bathroom and the living/sleeping area will be up front. I will most likely build some kind of modular corner sofa bed arrangement as I don't know where exactly to put a murphy bed. In the kitchen area, there will be a small sink, counter top stove a small under counter oven & a mini fridge. There will be one small overhead cupboard at the rear and shelving units up to the basement window. Next to the bathroom door there will likely be a small counter with a chair & some storage as a meals/study multi function space.

I think I've lived in that apartment.  :)  So this is a modification of the original design?  Great idea, because it's very realistic.  Love your plan for the kitchen.  Could you put a murphy bed on the wall where the red chair is?  Otherwise, a sofa bed would be fine. Or maybe you could build a futon bed, for the ultimate in realism?  http://www.thefutonshop.com/futons_san_francisco/

Ha! I lived in that apartment too!... When I first moved to Los Angeles, I lived in a basement apartment in a Spanish revival house. Well, being LA it was above ground.. like a walk out, but it was under the main house, so that counts right? lol... It was such a tiny little place, I had a double bed TV, a little study area kitchenette & bathroom... with the added luxury of a walk in robe!. Not sure where I'd fit one of those in my San Franciscan.. lets pretend. :D
Oddly, I wasn't trying to recreate that place.. but oddly, subconciously, I kind of have... haha.

A futon is a great idea... I'm going to look into that. :D
