Kitchen floor

Myangela

I know it's been forever since I have posted any pictures of my progress on this house.  I finished the floor last month after I got back from the Chicago Show where I took a couple of classes, one on soldering!  Still working on the dining room rug and it's coming along.  But my creativity muse must still be on holiday because, try as I might, I've not accomplished anything that I could use!  So, today I'm going to concentrate on cleaning up my studio.  It is a total mess.  Hopefully, my muse is just buried under all the clutter!  She needs to get back to work, the kitchen and morning room are not going to build themselves!

Seriously!  I've always wanted to take some sort of class or demo on soldering!  I suck at it.  :/

The floor, BTW- is pretty awesome!

Love the floor.

When my muse is quiet I pick something small to work in like flowers or a furniture piece, or something. Changing mediums will usually spark new ideas. :)

I too love the floor Amy and I'm in the same frame of mind with my current build......just something not clicking changing mediums works for me as well.

but hey! that floor must give you some encouragement!

The flooring looks fantastic. And when you get the chance, you must share soldering techniques with me.

I really needed a hands on course.  Tim Kraft was an excellent instructor, too.  He taught us how to solder round wire onto tape wire!

Love the subtle color variations in the "slate" flooring.  What medium did you use to create.it?  Learning Soldering is on my to do list  Tried my hand at welding once - enjoyed it but the consistancy is supposed to be like  pudding - not chicken poop!!  But the plasma cutter - now that was fun!!

Thank you!  The slate tiles are faux painted with acrylic paints on mat board, cut into squares, sealed with Modge Podge* after glueing them in formation, grouted with Woodland Scenics Lightweight Hydrocal** that my model railroad building husband keeps in his craft stash, (I know, lucky me!). It is my usual MO for any tile surface, mainly because I can recreate almost any natural stone  or tile surface I want :)!

I was really looking forward to taking this class on soldering, mainly to get over my inexplicable fear of soldering irons.  I was sooo not disappointed, felt so empowered afterwards!  Other applications to soldering was definitely on my list of what I may be able to do with this newly learned "trade."

What is a plasma cutter?

Amy

* I hate the smell of Modge Podge in the morning, afternoon or evening!  Just saying.

** the Hydrocal can be tinted with tube watercolor paint, too.  And, better, it hardly shrinks at all, when it dries.  (Only watercolor tube paint, acrylic paint, evidently, totally screws up the chemistry of the Hydrocal - based on my unfortunate personal experience.)

The plasma cutter is the tool that cuts the metal with intense heat. I liken it to cutiing paper doll shapes on steroids.  It was much easier to see what you were doing because instead of wearing the big welding mask that is hard to see trhrough at times - you  wore safety goggles.  I enjoyed the cutting process immensely.

Thanks for the detailed instruction - I appreciate it. I will store the info for future use.

Lucky you to work with your husband on miniature variations.  What a team!!!!
