Here are some of the kits in their boxes.jpg

This shows some of the boxes. They are all numbered and then you build them in order until you finish the Ryokan. The instructions are all in Japanese, so it will be a challenge!

Thanks Anna, it's really exciting to see them all! It sure was a lot of work emptying the huge box, and carrying them all in the house!

The kits I have were made in 2005 and 2006.

Now that I have mine, I see that they are a little bit different than the ones sold in Italy. They actually were only sold in Japan and Italy, and they must be somewhat rare, because I only know of six that were ever done.

I bought mine from Aggiemae. She did one for another lady a few years ago, so that makes two, another forum member in Italy did one, so that is three.

There is a man named Bob Kroonenburg who did one that I've seen on Pinterest, then photos of one in Japan with Superheroes around it. I also just found a few photos of another one, that looks a little different from any of the others, but I don't know anything about that one.

I am assuming it was somewhere on Yahoo, because it uses yimg in the URL, which is a Yahoo thing, but it looks like Yahoo messed things up so you can't find the original image. (Yahoo seems to be making it difficult to pin things to Pinterest lately. They probably see that as competition to Flicker). Anyway, it kind of stinks, because now I can't find the original and go to their site. Instead, there are a few anonymous copies of their work floating around on the internet, giving no credit to them, because when you follow the link, it takes you to a 1 pixel .gif, rather than to the page it's on.

Anyway, counting mine, those are the only six I can find anything out about so far, so I doubt if there were many of them completed.

The ones sold in Italy appear to have a few differences from the ones sold in Japan. The kits are packaged a little differently, and there were a few things in the Italian ones that aren't in the Japanese ones. I'm judging that from looking at the photos on Peggy's (one of our members here), blog.

The ones sold in Italy were in Italian, and the Japanese ones, (mine is from Japan), are in Japanese only.

But the answer is, unless you find someone who is selling one, like I did, they haven't been available for a long time.

Cool! The packaging is super nice! Mine just came in boxes and inside each installment was in blister packs.  So when I stored them and pulled them out two years later, some were warped.  I'd like to see a box opened and the contents next to it just to see how they packaged stuff.  It looks like everything is there!!!

How fun is this!

Oh, and if you have a iphone or android I think apps exist that will scan a kanji text and translate to english, in case you find some passages difficult.

A complete set of any of the houses sold in series like this is hard to find because most people stop buying them before the series is finished. The manufacturer doesn't sell them directly, or even replace pieces that break. The boxes should not be exposed to extreme temperatures and be store like books to prevent warping.

I have been without internet for almost a week, so I am way behind on posting. I'll try to get some pictures on here of the kits in their packaging once I get caught up on everything I am behind on.

I can't believe how many things I rely on the internet for!

Yeah, I was thinking about looking for an Android app for Kanji. It would help a lot! I can't believe I lost internet as soon as I got the house, so I couldn't even look for an app for my phone!
