Door handles - detail

otterine

I made door handles from brass tubing spray painted flat black with stippled on dark brown paint to simulate aged and corroded metal.  I drilled holes through the door and glued in black brads to finish the end holes.  I added aging washes to the surrounding wood and painted the brads to look like corroded metal.  I installed the handles at an angle, because I liked the look of it.  Here you can see the back of one door and the front of the other.

Nice touch Brae! It looks the part from both sides!

Just out of interest if you do use much brass (I used it a lot when building boats) look out for 'Krick Brass Blackener' it works well when you are unable to paint and it doesn't rub of or scratch as paint does.

This wouldn't apply in this instance but with brass being so available and useful it might be worth knowing................You almost certainly know anyway!
