gray shingles

stickyfingers

Dry, flat, and ready to go on the house. They turned out more brownish than I would like, but I'm hoping that when they're on the house they read  more charcoal/weathered wood. The RGT shingle dye made them a brown-purple-gray that just wasn't going to work. I also tried a homemade vinegar stain that also left them a weathered brown. Next time I'd try a black/gray mix of stains.

I meant to add that this is Minwax water-based stain in charcoal gray, mixed 50/50 with water. Using it straight out of the can was like paint and obliterated the grain. When I was running out of the mix, I thinned it a bit more for the last few strips of shingles. I wanted some variation in the color and depth of the shingles, so I ended up with a nice mix of dark/light. We'll see how it looks on the house...
